Tumor aggressiveness
Munich - An operation
planting a chip on the body
human possibilities can
used to monitor
tumor growth in a
difficult to reach by the physician.
The engineers health
Technische Universitaet Muenchen
( TUM) has developed
an electronic sensor chip
can determine the content
liquid oxygen in the existing network
in the patient 's body . Because
decrease in oxygen content
in the tissue surrounding the tumor
can show growth
rapid and aggressive tumor.
A research team led
by Prof. Bernhard Wolf of the TUM
Heinz Nixdorf Chair of Medical
Electronics now has
develop a chip
sensors that can be implanted near
with tumors . The sensor chip
can measure the concentration of
oxygen
dissolved in the tissue.
The results of this monitoring sensor
chip
wirelessly transmits
information hello to the doctor . Then
giunakan physician for this
information
monitor tumor progression
and regulate the operation or
treatment
appropriate for the patient , such as
chemotherapy . It is quoted
Medical Xpress, Monday (29 / 8 /
2011 ).
This sensor chip has passed the test
laboratory . The main challenge for
researchers are
develop a sensor
which can function independently
for long periods of time.
In fact , the sensor must be kept
functioning and results
accurate as long as there is in
the human body.
" We designed the sensor chip for
jive
concentrated with oxygen
Dissolved set at
interval measurements , " explains Sven
Becker , engineers and project
managers
This sensor chip.
Becker also revealed that
This electronic sensor chips must
made smaller before eventually
implanted in the patient ' s body
cancer . In addition , the
Scientists still want to design
This chip with complementary sensors
addition to measuring the level of
acidity and temperature of the tumor.
Scientists are also trying
makes the chip as a drug
pump that functions like
treatment of chemotherapy
used to kill tumors .
Becker hopes to find
new technologies by making
cancer therapies are more focused
and
could reduce tumor aggressiveness
for patients .

First, Edward urged consumers begin to familiarize themselves with online payment systems are now beginning to commonly used sites of e-commerce.

"The people of Indonesia are not yet familiar with the online payment system. Although the conduct online transactions, consumers in Indonesia are still happy to make payment offline, such as a cash deposit to the bank, transfer via ATM, and even meet with the seller to pay cash," he explained.

"I hope Indonesia will consumers use the online payment system that has been provided by the sites e-commerce, because their safety could be guaranteed. It is difficult for the site manager to oversee the transaction and its safety if consumers make payments online," added Edward.

In addition, Edward also suggested that consumers maximize the facilities forum to interact with sellers and see ratings from other consumers.

"Before buying a product, try to make contact with the seller and ask questions about the product. Consumers can also view the comments and ratings from other consumers who have never done a transaction with the seller is concerned. Are they satisfied or disappointed, of course, this could be an important consideration for consumers, "explained Edward.

"Finally, consumers can choose the vendor that has been trusted by the site manager. For example, in today we have a number of sellers who have status as a Trusted Seller, which is certainly more secure than other sellers," added Edward.

E . Coli Outbreak in Oregon Linked to Strawberries

E . Coli Outbreak in Oregon Linked
to Strawberries
An
elderly
woman
died and
at least
nine
other people were sickened after
eating fresh strawberries from an
Oregon farm contaminated with E .
coli , officials said on Monday .
The strawberries were produced at
the Jaquith Strawberry Farm in
Newberg , about 20 miles southwest
of Portland, and sold at farmers'
markets and roadside stands , said
the state 's public health division.
Officials stressed that strawberries
sold at supermarkets are not linked
to the outbreak , which has caused
illnesses in several northwest Oregon
counties .
An 85 year-old woman died from
kidney failure associated with the
infection , officials said. Among the
other nine confirmed cases , four
individuals were hospitalized .
State health officials believe that
another six people who developed
an E . coli infection could be part of
the outbreak .
All the victims fell ill between July 10
and July 29, but Oregon public health
officials did not begin their
investigation until August 3 , said Dr.
Paul Cieslak , communicable disease
manager for Oregon Public Health .
That is because sickened individuals
must first go to the doctor , and
medical laboratories must report the
cases to the state .
" There is a lag built into the system, "
Cieslak said .
There are about 265 , 000 infections
from E . Coli every year in the United
States , and about 36 percent of them
come from the strain known as
Escherichia coli 0157: H 7 that Oregon
officials blame for this latest
outbreak , according to the U .S .
Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention .
There is no recall of strawberries
from Jaquith Strawberry Farm ,
because that produce is no longer
being sold.
But officials advised anyone who
believes they may have bought
strawberries from the Oregon farm
to throw them away , and warned
that fruits which have been frozen or
made into uncooked jam are of
particular concern.

Genetically-Engineered Spermless Mosquitoes Offer Malaria Hope

Genetically-Engineered
Spermless Mosquitoes
Offer Malaria Hope

Where mosquito netting and bug
spray fail, European scientists are
turning to a unique solution to stem
the tide of malaria infection
worldwide : they're breeding boy
bugs that shoot blanks .
In a study release Monday in the
Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences, researchers in Italy and
the U . K. showed they were able to
genetically modify male Anopheles
mosquitoes so that they wouldn't
produce sperm . The bugs would still
produce seminal fluid, so mating
rituals would go on per usual , but
the fruit of coupling would be sterile
eggs that don't hatch.
" If mosquitoes [don' t] produce any
progeny ... the number of mosquitoes
in the wild will be reduced , eventually
reducing the chances of malaria
transmission , " says co- author on the
study Dr. Flaminia Catteruccia , of the
Imperial College in London.
Though there are thousands of
mosquito species , only a handful of
them can transmit malaria,
Catteruccia says, so targeting these
species has the potential to reduce
the spread of disease and is less
likely to negatively impact the local
ecosystem .
The fact that the Anopheles species
of mosquito tends to be
monogamous only enhances the
effect , as those females who mate
with sterile males tended to not seek
out other , potentially virile mates.
Sterility may even prove a
reproductive boon for sperm- less
males , authors note, because making
sperm is energy -consuming, thus the
modified males may appear to be
stronger mates .
More than 225 million people
worldwide suffer from malaria. Each
year , nearly 800 ,000 people will die
from the disease, many of whom are
children living in Africa.
" Given the constant spread of the
disease, alternative approaches to
the use of insecticides are urgently
needed, " the study 's authors wrote.
Modifying Mosquitoes to Stem
Malaria
Monday 's research is just the most
recent example of a number of
mosquito -modifying techniques
tested in the past few years in hopes
of limiting the mosquito population
or the bugs ' disease transmission
capabilities .
In 2009, Australian researchers used
a modified bacteria to cut the
lifespan of mosquitoes in half.
Researchers hoped this would
reduce the extent to which the bugs
spread Dengue fever , an infection
that afflicts tens of millions of people
each year and kills 20,000 .
Why might this work? Both Dengue
fever and malaria require time to
incubate within the bug before they
can be transmitted by a bite. This
means that shorter -living mosquitos
can still be a source of food and
serve their purpose in the ecosystem,
but they don' t live long enough to
pass on these diseases .
In 2010, between 2 ,000 and 3, 000 of
these short -lived mosquitos were
released into the environment in
Malaysia as a trial run for reducing
Dengue fever rates .
Other mosquito-limiting tactics have
included modifying males to be
unable to fly ( and who have offspring
who also cannot fly) and injecting
mosquitos with a special fungus that
is thought to reduce the bug's ability
to pass malaria to humans , even
when the bugs themselves become
infected .
The hope with these various
methods is that disease rates can be
lowered without negatively impacting
the surrounding ecosystems, which
often include several species of
insects and animals that rely on
mosquitoes for food .

World Wide Web (WWW) Celebrate 20th Anniversary Year

There are special to
Internet users around the world
on August 6 , 2011 ago.
The reason is precisely that day , the
World Wide
Web (WWW) is celebrating its
anniversary
its 20th year.
Yes , the WWW is always used by
Netter before entering
site address on the internet. WWW
' born'
on August 6 , 1991, which
invented by Sir Tim Berners- Lee.
Men from England
launched a web page to page
the first time 20 years ago.

Long before he was introduced to
general consumers, the WWW was
started
as a simple page that
display a link allows
a group of scientists to
sharing of data within limits - limits
their laboratory . However , by
Tim Berners-Lee
introduced to the public,
and since then it has been
integral part of
lives of billions of people .
Quoted by the Daily Mail , Monday
( 8 / 8 / 2011 ), born physicist
London is also scientist
the computer is working at
European Organization for Nuclear
Research
( CERN ) in Geneva when he tried to
find better ways to
his colleagues for
linking data .
He first proposed the WWW
in 1989 and post
Data from the project in newsgroups
alt .hypertext, the project 's time
known by the name, "Project WWW
aims to allow
all links should be made to
any information anywhere "
While the first website
introduced is - http:/ /
info. cern. ch / hypertext / WWW /
TheProject . html - which runs on
nxoc 01. CERN . ch.
Not only want limited use
to users among
scientist , Tim Berner- Lee was
spread it all over the world
to the general public. " We
very interested in deploying
web to other areas and have
gateway servers for other data , "
he said.
And collaborate they did
in 1992, there were 50 web servers
around the world. And in
journey for 20 years
there are 19 . 68 billion more pages
created, or more than three
times the world's population

Recent solar flare may disrupt your GPS

Recent solar flare may disrupt your
GPS
We 're the peak of the 11- year solar
cycle , so double -check your GPS, and
watch where you' re going.
On Thursday, the sun unleashed a
massive solar flare ( see video of the
flare and how its effects have been
moving toward Earth) . Solar flares can
disrupt radio communications,
including devices that use Global
Positioning System technology , such
as cell phones, airplanes and car
navigation systems.
So if you're relying on your GPS for
driving directions, to find your location
on your phone' s mapping tool or for
any other purpose, have a backup
navigation system handy, such as a
printed map .
Even more important , pay close
attention to where you are and where
you're going. Don 't rely solely on your
GPS to give you directions.
In 2006 , research from Cornell
University proved that solar flares can
cause GPS devices to lose signal. This
can cause these devices to temporarily
misrepresent your location or
otherwise malfunction.
" If you're driving to the beach using
your car 's navigation system, you'll be
OK . If you' re on a commercial airplane
in zero visibility weather , maybe not , "
said Paul Kintner Jr . , head of Cornell 's
GPS Laboratory . In fact , the Cornell
researchers warned in 2006 that 2011
would probably see lots of GPS
disruption .
In addition , solar flares can disrupt
power systems.
This week, National Geographic
reported : " Under the right conditions,
solar storms can create extra electrical
currents in Earth 's magnetosphere - -
the region around the planet
controlled by our magnetic field. The
electrical power grid is particularly
vulnerable to these extra currents,
which can infiltrate high-voltage
transmission lines , causing
transformers to overheat and possibly
burn out ."
Across the nation , electric utilities and
grid operators are preparing to
respond to such problems.
John Bogdan, director of the National
Oceanographic and Atmospheric
Administration 's Space Weather
Prediction Center, told The Associated
Press that a number of such blasts is
expected over the next three to five
years - - and the biggest flares are yet
to come. On a scale of one to five , he
likened this week' s flare to "probably
a two or three ."
This week' s flare ( called a " coronal
mass ejection") registered M9 .3 on the
" Richter scale of flares ," about the
highest level in the " medium "
category . Larger flares that fall into the
" X" category can cause global radio
blackouts, but large M-class flares also
can cause radio disruptions.
This is one of a series of recent bouts
of severe space weather, as the solar
cycle approaches solar maximum in
2013 . Other major flares came in
February and June, and more may
follow. A good place to follow solar
activity is SpaceWeather .com .
In the meantime, keep those maps
handy.

Nasa picks three in space contest

A $1.1bn (£0.7bn) unmanned Nasa space mission has launched from Florida on a journey to the planet Jupiter.

The Juno spacecraft will cruise beyond Mars to put itself in orbit around the gas giant in 2016.

It is the first solar-powered mission to venture this far from the Sun.

The mission launched atop an Atlas 5 rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Friday at 12:25 local time (16:25 GMT; 17:25 BST), after a brief delay caused by a helium leak.

There were concerns with the helium charging system on the rocket's Centaur upper stage, but a small leak on the "ground side" of the rocket was found to be the culprit.

"Today, with the launch of the Juno spacecraft, Nasa began a journey to yet another new frontier," said the agency's administrator Charles Bolden.

"The future of exploration includes cutting-edge science like this to help us better understand our Solar System and an ever-increasing array of challenging destinations."
Pushing boundaries

At Jupiter, where the intensity of sunlight is only 1/25th of that at Earth, space missions would normally resort to a plutonium battery.

But Juno will instead travel with three wings coated with 18,000 solar cells.

"As a solar-panelled mission, we have to keep those solar panels facing the Sun and we never go into Jupiter's shadow," the mission's chief scientist Scott Bolton told BBC News.

"Those are things we can do and still accomplish our science; it doesn't hurt us. But it would have been easier if we could have pointed just any way we wanted. We've had to develop [a strategy], and in fact we've advanced solar cell technology in doing so."

Juno's mission is to probe the secrets of the Solar System by explaining the origin and evolution of its biggest planet.

The spacecraft's remote sensing instruments will look down into the giant through the many layers and measure their composition, temperature, motion and other properties.

This should yield some remarkable new insights into the coloured bands that wrap around the planet, and a new perspective on the famous Great Red Spot - the colossal storm that has raged on Jupiter for hundreds of years.

Scientists also want to measure the abundance of water in the atmosphere - an indicator of how much oxygen was present in Jupiter's region of the Solar System when it formed.

The probe will also try to settle old arguments over whether the planet hosts a rocky core or whether its gases go all the way down to the centre in an ever more compressed state.

And it will look for the deep swirling sea of liquid metallic hydrogen that many suspect is the driver behind Jupiter's strong magnetic field.

Juno is the second in Nasa's so called New Frontiers class missions. The first, New Horizons, was launched towards dwarf planet Pluto in 2006 and should arrive at its target in 2015. Juno probe heads for Jupiter from Cape Canaveral

Klinsmann promises new style for U . S. soccer

Former Germany coach Jurgen
Klinsmann made his first public
appearance as coach of the U .S .
men 's soccer team, and immediately
vowed to bring some style to the job .
Klinsmann , who won the 1990 World
Cup as a player and took the German
national team to the semi -finals of the
2006 tournament, was announced as
Bob Bradley's replacement on Friday,
24- hours after the American was
sacked .
Monday saw the former striker , who
enjoyed successful spells as a player at
Tottenham Hotspur , Bayern Munich
and Inter Milan , face the press for the
first time as he set out his agenda for
the national team .
" This is exciting, " he told reporters.
" One of my challenges will be to find a
way to define how the U . S. represents
its country and its style of play."
As well as defining a new style for the
U .S . national team , Klinsmann
promised to look far and wide to
uncover new talent, delving into
America' s soccer- crazy immigrant
communities to unearth an American
Lionel Messi.
" We need to dig into where to find
more talent, " he said.
" Maybe we can find somebody kicking
the ball around the street and develop
him, but this will come with time . I
hope we find a way to find a Lionel
Messi in the United States. That would
be awesome."
Klinsmann is no stranger to the
country. The 47- year-old , who lives in
California and has an American wife,
was linked to the post on two previous
occasions and has seen U .S . soccer
grow up fast in recent years .
" You build on what was built before .
Soccer in the USA has come a long
way," he said
